Stephenson Equipment, A Legacy Continues, Building Something Real
In
1957
Stephenson Equipment was founded by Paul Stephenson with the first location in Harrisburg, PA. Primarily focused on municipal equipment, the Harrisburg location is still Stephenson's largest location.
In
1963
Jim Penman joined Stephenson Equipment. Jim and Paul continued to grow and build the business to include construction equipment, eventually becoming a dealer for cranes and asphalt equipment while still maintaining a focus on the municipal business.
In
1992
Jim and Karen Penman bought controlling interest in Stephenson Equipment from Paul Stephenson.
In
2003
employees Dennis Heller and Bob Criste purchased majority ownership of Stephenson Equipment from Jim and Karen Penman.
In
2009
the team decides to purchase C.C. & F.F. Keesler expanding SEI and starting a location in the Philadelphia area.
By
2012
Dennis Heller, Bob Criste and their team of employees have grown the business from 3 locations to 6 full-service dealerships, becoming the largest crane dealership serving PA & NY. This coupled with being one of the largest dealers for LeeBoy, BOMAG, Tiger and JCB in the country.
In
2017
Dennis and Bob expand Stephenson's footprint across Western Pennsylvania when they purchased Walsh Equipment, bringing Charlie Walsh and their employees into the Stephenson family. With the addition of Walsh Equipment, Stephenson Equipment grows to 8 locations across PA & NY.
In
2021
Bob Criste, Charlie Walsh and the executive team purchase MJR Equipment, a 10 year old company based in Harrisburg to further grow the Public Works and Infrastructure part of the business. SEI now has grown to 9 locations serving Pennsylvania and New York.
In
2023 Stephenson Equipment becomes an ESOP or Employee-Owned company. When SEI makes this announcement SEI has grown to over 240 full-time employees.
In
2024 Stephenson Equipment expands to 12 locations with three new locations in the mid-Atlantic states of Maryland and Northern Virginia after they purchased Valley Equipment.
Set to open in the 4th quarter of
2025 SEI will now have a location, it's 13th, located in Lancaster county in Ephrata, PA. With this location opening Stephenson will have a work force of over 300 employee-owners serving their customer base.
